Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being on Healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I would surely like to address your concern in the best possible way but I need to know a few details beforehand-
1)In how many seconds or minutes did you recover your consciousness in this event?Did you get up yourself after falling?
2)Did you have an episode of loss of consciousness/similar black out in the past also?
3)Do you have Diabetes, heart disease or any other disease?
4)Are you on any medicines? If yes, please tell the details?

This may be a cough syncope episode. However,I may be able to comment better after knowing the details.

I shall be glad to have you in follow up.

Brief Answer:
Cough syncope?Get treated for your cough and it should improve.

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

This appears to be cough syncope. Please get treated for your cough and this symptom will likely resolve, as your cough improves.Cough leads to increased intrathoracic pressure which results in transient decreased cardiac output and less perfusion to brain, thus causing loss of consciousness.

However,the following is advisable-
1)Blood pressure-in standing and supine position to observe for postural hypotension
2)Fasting blood sugar.
3)Hemogram-to see for anemia

Further, you should take plenty of fluids as that helps to prevent syncope.

If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
