What Causes Sudden Drowsiness And Slurred Speech With A History Of Bypass?
Question: My husband woke up this morning and seemed fine. We sat down to breakfast and he started falling asleep at the breakfast table. He has never done this before. His speech was a bit slurred. Now he is downstairs relaxing in a easy chair. He has had a bypass in the past. I think I should call the ambulance. Please advise.
Brief Answer:
It could be stroke.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Given his history of by-pass he is considered someone at risk for stroke so symptoms indicating that have to be taken seriously. Slurred speech and somnolence may be indicators of stroke involving the posterior areas of the brain.
So I think that it is justified to call an ambulance in order to have him assessed for that possibility.
I remain at your disposal for further questions.
