What Causes Sudden Onset Of Pain In The Right Hip Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Dec 2016
Question: I have sudden onset pain in my right hip area. Seems like it's more in the muscle or tendon. It hurts to sit, walk or move. Get sharp pains at times when I move it. Was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis on September 15th. Found blood clots in left leg. Have been on 20mg of Xarelto. I think it's tendonitis but am worried it could be another clot.

Brief Answer:
Could be pain from spine

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
You have sudden onset pain right hip area and it bothers you to sit , walk or move . You also had blood clots in Left Leg in September 15th.
In my opinion , this pain could be from hip ( arthritis / Pseudo fracture )or a referred pain from spine ( slipped Disc L5-S1 / Spinal Canal Stenosis) with muscular spasms.
Blood clot will not give rise to this kind of pain.
I suggest you start Pain killers , muscle relaxants , and get an X ray of the hip to rule out local problem in the hip. If you get relief with medicines and X Ray of hip is normal start physiotherapy for spine along with medicines.
I hope to have answered your question . Please feel free to ask any further questions.
