What Causes Sudden Throbbing Pain In The Groin Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, I am a 32 year old woman. I am having sudden throbbing pain in my right groin area. It comes and goes. I feel it most when I'm walking but then I won't feel it again for a few hours. I have been increasing my running lately so I'm wondering if it has to do with that or if its a more serious issue. Its been going for the past week.

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/32 - increased running lately - sudden throbbing pain in right groin area - comes and goes - feel it most when walking - then no feeling for a few hours - for the past week - Ibuprofen ...
As per the history you have provided this looks most probably due to groin strain wherein the attachment of the muscles to the pubic bone gets inflamed.
Also see whether there is any bulge that comes and goes like inguinal hernia.
Also see for any non-reducible lump like lymph nodes.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Give rest- no running til well diagnosed and treated.
Consult your Doctor for an actual examination.
Continue Ibuprofen at 8 hourly duration.
Avoid all the activities that give strain on the muscles of the thigh.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
