What Causes Sudden Weight Gain In A Person With Dysgerminoma?
I also have nausea, back pain, almost constant bloating, faituge, and flank pain. Along with abdominal pressure and feeling full after a small snack.
Your combination of symptoms could be a recurrence
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
The prognosis of stage 1 dysgerminoma is generally excellent with proper treatment. So your overall risk of recurrence is low, however you have many abnormal symptoms which can be associated with recurrent ovarian cancer.
However, I do not know if you are sexually active, or still have one ovary, but a more benign condition can certainly cause all of these symptoms... pregnancy. So if you are at risk for pregnancy I would consider doing a test.
Your abdominal symptoms could also be caused by a kidney infection, gastroenteritis and other medical causes.
So I do think you absolutely need a medical evaluation. I would recommend that you do a pregnancy test (if that is a possibility) and if not make an urgent appointment to see your oncologist. Or you may get a faster full evaluation in an emergency room.
In summary, I do think you need to be concerned enough to get a medical evaluation soon. You need at the minimum urine and blood tests and a CT scan of your abdomen to fully evaluate you for all the potential causes of your symptoms.
I hope I was adequately able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes, Dr. Brown
Unfortunately there are too many possibilities to speculate
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
You certainly can have effects on your bowel and bladder function after a radical hysterectomy because small nerves in the pelvic wall can be severed or affected by scar tissue. However, those symptoms are more likely to have started closer to your time of surgery. But again, because your symptoms are so nonspecific and the fact that you do have a history of abdominal cancer, I still believe your best plan of action is to speak with your oncologist and see what he/she recommends. I don't know when you were last evaluated, but in the first five years after treatment of ovarian cancer most oncologists I've worked with recommend getting a yearly CT for surveillance even without symptoms.
Of course there are other medically serious conditions that can cause your symptoms also, like a bowel obstruction or a kidney stone or infection, which require hospitalization for treatment.
It is possible to continue to speculate about many potential causes of your symptoms, however there is no way you can be accurately diagnosed without a physical examination and some diagnostic tests. I know you probably were hoping for some reassurance, but the best way to do that is to get the proper evaluation to make sure everything is ok.
So again, if your pain is very severe, going to an emergency room may be the most efficient way to get the tests you need. I do not recommend waiting too much longer as no matter what the cause you sound quite sick from the description of your symptoms.
I hope my advice was helpful and that you seek appropriate care from your local doctor or ER to properly make an accurate diagnosis for you.
