Brief Answer: XXXXXXX I can try to help you, can you tell me a bit more?

Detailed Answer: XXXXXXX I completely understand your frustration. Hitting mid-life doesn't help as when we age our percent body fat increases and our metabolic rate is primarily determined by our lean muscle mass where the mitochondria (power houses of the cell) are stored. So, we begin an uphill battle.

What have you tried before that has worked and what hasn't worked? Calorically speaking, you should be maintaining your weight on 2,341 calories (I know, you are laughing), 1841 to lose 1 pound per week and 1341 calories to lose two pounds per week.

I suggest you get down to actually measuring heart rate. Choose an exercise such as fast walking, swimming, and learn to check your heart rate. try to keep it at 115 beats per minute for 20 continuous minutes after a warm up and cool down. Focus on both strengthening and cardio exercises.

Most of my clients choose to follow a 1200 calorie diet regardless of my calculations. That would amount to 4 grain servings, 2 dairy servings, 2-3 fat servings, 4 protein servings, 2 fresh fruit only and at least 2 vegetables. No frying, limit saturated fat and substitue canola oil, extra virgin olive oil. One day a week, try to drink mostly water and rest, this is usually a Sunday.

Green Tea, 6 oz. am and at lunch will boost metabolism and add antioxidants. Resveratrol as well, if you are looking for a healthy supplement, has been found in recent studies to help patients lose weight at a dose of 150 mg/day.

Please feel free to write back for clarifications if need be. Otherwise, I hope I have helped and I will wait for either your reply or for you to close and rate the question. Thank you for visiting HCM. May health be with you, XXXXXXX Shattler, MS,RDN
