default
Posted on Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Question: I have developed a severe sunburn like rash on my face. It started slowly 3 weeks ago as small bumps above my upper lip and proceeded to the nasal folds and top of nose. The rash started getting worse this past
Thurs. On Sun. a clinic Dr. diagnosed it as perioral dermatitis and prescribed minocycline but it doesn't look like that from the images I have seen on the internet. On Mon. it began to become a sunburn on my cheeks and by Tues. it was really bad and has now gone down past the corner of the lips. I will attach a photo for you to view.

Thank You,

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload a few Images

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have taken note of your query and I hope to help you regarding that..

Skin lesions in perioral dermatitis are red, raised bumps which may also be fluid filled. There might be associated itching or burning sensation.
They are distributed mainly on the area around nose, particularly the sides of alae nasi and also extend down the nasolabial folds.
The lesions may also involve angles of mouth, upper lip and chin. Rarely they may extend to involve the glabella and cheeks as well.

I would like to request you to upload a few digital Images. You may either upload them at "Reports Section"

Or else

You may also mail me the Images at YYYY@YYYY . Kindly mention the subject of this mail as Attn: Dr. Kakkar.

Brief Answer:
I suggest a possibility of seborrheic dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I have reviewed the Image.

This actually looks very similar to seborrheic dermatitis.

There is dry, red, scaly involvement of the centrofacial face i.e the nasolabial folds and adjacent cheeks, upper lip.

I would suggest you to try an OTC topical steroid e.g hydrocortisone 1% cream, twice daily for a few days.

Regards
