What Causes Swelling And Pain In Testicle?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I got anxious that it is an STD !!
And i called the doctor which explained to me that he is suspecting UTI with urin reflux causing prostaitis and epidiymorchitis . Which he referred to as ( honeymoon cystitis ) . I asked him about the reason for me to use the antibiotics and he told me that E coli in sperm can cause infections to me and can be transmitted again to me husband . He also stressed on the need for antibiotics to avoid serious issues including infertility!!
I'm still worried about it being an STD . Also worried about using antibiotics for that long
Also should i see a doctor or be tested ?
you need to get tested
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthavcermagic.
I read your query and understand your concern.
In my view what his urologist suggested is right thing but advice of treatment for you is something, that is not warranted.
If he thinks that four weeks of ciprofloxacin can wipe all of your E coli, in my view that is unlikely to happen.
For the confirmation it is required to get tested with simple urine test. The simple urine test will show the presence of E coli in your urine, which can be considered as an indication for antibiotic treatment.
It is generally said that with proper care UTI becomes clear within 48 hours in majority of women even without antibiotic treatment.
The proper care includes
1. Drinking plenty of water (8 glasses a day is recommended)
2. Drinking cranberry juice
3. Avoidance of coffee and tea
4. Urinating immediately before and after sexual activity to flush bacteria from the urethra
With these simple measure a UTI can be treated even if it is present with symptoms.
Having said this I like to inform you that abstinence from sexual activity is essential as there is risk of recurrence of infection as suggested by your doctor.
I also like to assure you that this is not a STD but because of his condition (varicocele) he is more at risk of infection that a normal individual.
'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
