What Causes Swelling And Painful Tingling Sensation In Right Hand While Sleeping?
Question: Recently, my right hand swells when I am sleeping, and I have a painful tingling sensation in that area. The problem seems to diminish if I stand up and shake my hand vigorously for a while, but returns when I lay down and try to go back to sleep. My right index finger also seems to be losing range of motion and flexibility and stays slightly swollen all of the time. I am losing a lot of sleep because of this. The pain is manageable at this point but my fear is that the problem will worsen. I have tried Ibuprofen (400 mg) at bedtime but that doesn't seem to be very effective.
Brief Answer:
Sounds like a nerve related issue
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your message. I think I can help you. The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible nerve issue. I would suggest that you test with a MRI cervical spine and NCV both upper limb.
The possibility is strong enough that the nerve is getting compressed where it comes out of the spine causing the symptoms.
I would suggest a prescription for pregabalin and methylcobalamin in the meantime.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal
