What Causes Swelling And Redness On Inside Of Upper And Lower Lips?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: I have been experiencing strange mouth symptoms, and, so far, have three different diagnoses with nothing definitive. I was scheduled for partial knee replacement Aug. 8th, but have had to postpone it twice and will have to again because I cannot get a handle on whatever is going on in my mouth. I have swelling of and redness on the inner upper and lower lips and tongue, some large red blister types on both lips, small ones on edges of my tongue, and sometimes see small white listers that don't last. it's not painful, but very uncomfortable...cannot eat well and noting salty, acidic, or spicy. have had one prescription of anti-viral meds with no effect. Tongue has strange orange coating on it. Any ideas? Professional Suggestions thus far: shingles, some type of vit. B symptom, herpes...... I have been seen by my dentist, my PCP who is an internal specialist, will see an ENT on recommendation of my PCP this afternoon and then possibly my dermatologist. Any other specialists you would suggest I go to for consultation and diagnosis?

Brief Answer:
Detailed dental history needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am glad to assist you and I'm sorry that you are having a great deal of discomfort with your mouth. I am happy with your selection of specialists and will be interested to hear what the dermatologist has to say. Allergic reactions can produce a number if your symptoms. Triggers such as a change in dental products used should be considered.
I need to know more about your dental history. My initial thoughts are that you have a dry mouth and trauma to your tissue as a result. Your occlusion and proper vertical dimension of your bite when not correct, can produce some of these symptoms. The function of your salivary glands could be compromised. A dry mouth alone can change the consistency of your saliva.
Please provide me with a detailed medical and dental history. I am glad to view x-rays. Do you have any dental appliances?
I am looking forward to following up with you after I review additional details. ease let me know if you have already addressed the issues that I have suggested be addressed.
