What Causes Swelling Around Eyes?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Feb 2015
Question: I have allergies, mainly sinuses. During the winter my sinuses get very bad. For the past few weeks my eyes are swelling and very puffy around the lids. Some mornings they are almost swollen shut. The last doctor I wentf to changed my blood pressure med from Atenolol to Amlodopine. I wondering if this could be one of the reasons for the swelling. But I'm thinking more of the sinuses backing up and affecting my eyes. I don't go to the doctor for a lot of things. I take a lot of herbs and use them for a lot of healings. I just need to know if I should concentrate on clearing my sinuses with the usual things or does the swelling sound like some kind of infection ?

Brief Answer:
Amlodipine could be the cause for swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to the Healthcare Magic.
I had gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

The swelling around eyes could be a side effect of amlodipine, though less common. Consult your treating doctor for reviewing your medications, including herbs.

For your allergic sinus disease I recommend the following.
1) Avoid allergens like dust, pollens..
2) Steroid nasal spray.
3) Oxymetazoline nasal drops for nasal block. Don't use this continuously for more than 6 days.
4) Antihistamine like levocetrizine with montelukast.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help you.

Wish you a good health.

Regards,
