What Causes Swelling Around Vagina And Slight Urine Leakage While Treating UTI?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Dec 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with a UTi (ecoli) 2 months ago and took 3 rounds of antibiotics. My last test came back positive for blood in my urine but no nitrates. I was sent to a urologist and another urine sample came back positive for a UTi so I am taking another round of antibiotics. During this, I have developed severe swelling of my vaginal walls and rectum (with slight pain in my left leg) however a vaginitis test came back negative. I am all of the sudden fearing the worst (cervical cancer) because they cannot figure out why my vaginal walls are swollen. I have actually been having awkward changes in my discharge and slight leaking of urine for a year. I was told that this was due to my age (41). I have not had a pap smear for 3 years because I was told this was the new guideline. ( I am requesting on Monday when I have my IUD taken out). Can you give me any advice or suggestions on how to handle this?

Brief Answer:
Allergic cause likely for recent swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i must suggest, you have a gynecologist check-up at the earliest.
That will clear up your vaginal swelling and discharge from there.
If urine culture test is positive, then only, you need to take a course of antibiotic.
Blood in urine may be due to the recurrent UTI, or some other cause.
You'll need an ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis,as well as a TV scan.
T.V.scan is trans-vaginal. This is very informative, regarding the changes seen.
IUD can be contributive to your symptoms of discharge.
Swelling around anal region and vagina, are likely caused by an allergic reaction.
Allergy is probably caused, by the recent antibiotic started.
Your doctor should be able to examine this and give you an anti-histamine course.
Wish you good health.
