Brief Answer:
Get done blood urea and s.creatinine levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic,
As you have mentioned using OTC drugs for and drinking plenty of water. Using of pain killers for your back pain possibly the culprit for your ankle swells.

As you are aware of this pain killers (NSAIDS) they causes kidney damage and decreases the filtration capacity of kidneys.
I suggest you to get done some blood works to estimate how well your kidneys are doing their job
- blood urea and serum creatinine levels.

Mean while you can alleviate by simply elevating your limbs by putting 2 pillows below your legs.

I stopped my pain pills when this started, but have arthritis. I changed climates so that can also be part of it. My ankles swelled last year too.

Am feeling slightly better but tomorrow will tell. If not much better, will go to the Emergency Room down here in CA. I am from XXXXXXX OR.
