What Causes Swelling In Armpit?

Question: Hi--I am a 66 y/o female in good health. Sudden onset swelling in right armpit starting less than 24 hours ago. In that time it has gone from a pink spot about 3/8 inch to hard swelling about 1 inch in diameter.
Home treatment? Need to see MD tomorrow?

Armpit swelling can be caused by an inflammation of the skin glands (especially when you have been shaving it recently) or due to lymph nodes enlargement.
Lymph nodes enlargement can be a symptom of breast cancer.
In both cases you should consult your doctor (tomorrow is fine). In case of inflammation, some incision might be necessary.
Lymph nodes should be checked with an ultrasound. In case of theirs enlargement, biopsy might be necessary.
