What Causes Swelling In Calf Post A Knee Injury?
Question: edema in calf due to knee injury. Could a blood clot form?
Brief Answer:
yes
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
It is not usual that calf swelling occur due to knee trauma if there wasnt additional calf muscle distension so I would suggest to do doppler ultrasound of leg to rule out possible deep vein thrombosis especially if there is paleness and pain in calf. Till that you should avoid long standings, wear elastic socks and rest. Wish you good health. Regards

I had a fall and the knee was sore and swollen I used an ice pack and the swelling on the knee is pretty much gone, still sore however. a few days after the fall I began to have the edema. The calf is not pale. It has the same color as the other one. I am guessing that I have torn something in my knee. I am going to call an orthopedic doctor on Monday. what do you think?
