Brief Answer:
You need a clinical evaluation..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swelling of the Foliate Papillae can occur due to a few reasons like burning with hot food or some chemical irritant, Oral infection like fungal infection, Vitamin Deficiencies like iron and Vitamin B12, smoking, stress and in few instances even Oral cancer..

In your case it seems to be due to burning with hot coffee..

You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

As of now you can do warm saline gargles..
Suck on ice pops and gargle with cold water..
Take Multivitamin tablet one daily..
Avoid hot and spicy food..
Maintain a good Oral hygiene..
In case of pain you can take Ibuprofen which is an Anti-inflammatory painkiller..

You can consult with an Oral physician and can revert me back so that I can guide you further with a correct treatment..

Wishing you soon recovery..

Any further questions are heartly invited..

Thanks and regards..

Thanks dr. I dont have any pain. I just notice its there and get nervous. I went to the dentist 2 weeks ago and she mention any concern, though i didnt bring it up. I was also wondering if its normal for oneside of the foliate papillae to be larger then the other .

Brief Answer:
Need not to worry, nothing seems serious..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Again..

A slight difference in the size of the Papillae is not an abnormality and if it is completely assymptomatic then you need not to worry..

But in case if it increase in size further or there is pain or swelling consult an Oral Physician..

You should completely quit tobacco chewing as well as Smoking..

All the best..

Thanks and regards..

Thanks dr. I have quit for 5 years. I do think the papillae has gotten smaller then 2 weeks ago. As i mentioned before, my dentist didn't even mention it during my exam 2 weeks ago. Just being a hypocondriac i guess. One of the perks of working at a hospital. Thanks again dr .

Brief Answer:
You are absolutely fine..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Again..

As you do not consume tobacco anymore and as the Papillae have become smaller in size it clearly indicates that it was due to inflammation caused due to burning with hot coffee..
Just relax now as nothing is needed to be done as everything is fine..

Brief Answer:
It is enlarged foliate Papillae..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Again..

As per the images it is enlarged foliate papillae and seems to be due to burning with hot coffee..

Nothing to worry continue with the treatment as I described you in the previous discussions and wait for another 2 weeks for it to resolve..

You can also apply a Steroid based Oral paste over the swollen papillae..

In case if it does not improve in next 2 week also get a Biopsy done..

Hope this information helps...

Thanks and regards..
