You can stop if symptoms bad
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
You are experiencing swelling of ankles and feet dizziness, difficulty in swallowing, back pain, weakness in muscles after addition of amlodipine. These are side effects of amlodipine.
The presence of the symptoms like swelling of feet, weakness does not really indicate the discontinuation of amlodipine.
The presence of difficulty in swallowing and back pain, if bad may be a taken as a reason to discontinue this medicine.
Yes it can be discontinued as such if the dose is small (5 mg or less OD). But if the dose is more than 5 mg/day than you have to decrease the dose to 5 mg and then to 2.5 mg over the period of 2 weeks to avoid abrupt rise of blood pressure.
Before withdrawing I would suggest you to see your prescribing doctor. He may not discontinue or he may give another anti-hypertensive in its place.
Hope it helps.
