What Causes Swelling On The Upper Lips?

Question: My upper lips is swelling on and off. My blood pressure medicine was changed but now it is doing it again. It was benzapril now it is amlopine besyate. But it is just my upper lip.

I am sorry to hear that you are having swelling of teh upper lip. This is probably urticaria or hives. I agree with your doctor in switching you to amlodipine from Benzapril as Benzapril frequently will cause hives. Depending on how long ago you stopped the benzapril you may still get allergic reactions up to 2 weeks after stopping the benzapril. So If you are still in that 2 week window take benadryl or other antihistamine. You do not need to stop the amlodipine just yet because it has a lot lower incidence of hives.
