Dear Ms,
In view of previous history of drainage of fluid in post operative period and reappearance of swelling, possibility of Seroma needs to be considered. Seroma is localized collection of serum which occurs in reaction to mesh which is foreign body.
Clinical examination and assessment by Ultraosund will be able to decide the cause. Drainage and light packing of wound with gauge piece will help.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Thank you Doctor for reply. My follow up concerns repeated swelling. Ann’s wound healed perfectly but then she experienced swelling along the wound that was subsequently drained and was flat again. However some swelling XXXXXXX again but only partly the length of wound. It is not painful except to touch and not very coloured/ bruised looking. As you say an ultrasound will show more. Meanwhile we are worried/confused as she travels on 1 st Aug to XXXXXXX Can it be drained successfully second time? Will she need further op? Will it re occur? Any comments/ advice greatly appreciated. XXXXX
Brief Answer:
It can be redrained
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings
It can be redrained successfully even 2 nd time.
Opening the wound where the collection is , draining the fluid and keeping the tip of gauge piece inside with the rest of gauge piece outside is ideal treatment. The cotton gauge piece will act as wick and will drain any subsequent fluid by its capillary action preventing recurrence. You can discuss it with your treating physician. After adequate drainage and technique for prevention of recurrence she can definitely travel. No issues
