What Causes Swelling, Tingling, Numbness And Pain After A Fracture In Hand?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I had a fall two weeks ago and injured my right hand. Since then I have developed swelling, tingling, numbness, and pain in the right hand (along the ulnar nerve) as well as pain, numbness, tingling, and significant edema in the right foot, ankle, and lower leg ( not symptoms in left leg.). What do you think is happening?

Brief Answer:
You may be having hairline fracture in hand

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. You have two different problems.
1.Your pain and swelling in hand is most probably due to fracture in the wrist. It is causing pain and difficulty in movements. I would recommend you to get x ray of the wrist joint to see if there is any hairline fracture. If there is such fracture present then you will need plaster.
2.For pain and swelling in right foot and ankle it can be due to nerve compression in the spine. I would recommend you to get a MRI of the spine. This will tell us if there is any disc herniation. If it is there then you will need physiotherapy and tablet Pregabalin M one daily at night time.
Also make sure that your blood sugar, thyroid and vitamin B 12 level should be normal as all these can cause neuropathy and tingling, numbness like symptoms.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
