What Causes Swollen Bleeding Gums, Shortness Of Breath And Painful Breasts?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Nov 2014
Question: I usually have swollen gums during my period and then they stop--this time, it didn't--next thing I know, about 3 weeks later, my BF notices my breasts are huge, I have lower back pain, massive headaches, noticeable unusual constipation that has been prevalent, palpitations, I tire easily, shortness of breath, I had a slight cold last week or so back that was odd, changes in my appetite, and my sense of smell and taste is 'off'. My dreams are bizarre, my body temp is up and down, dizziness, and im moody!!!
My problem is this--I am 44 and a combat veteran, I also had a tubal ligation in 1995. I have suffered from PMS in the past...but this is insanity. The gum bleeding issue, the shortness of breath, and my breast are huge and painful!! issues are making me pose the question. I am in pain all over, my lower back and fatigue!! yikes!! please send me a clue!!!
Thanks!

Brief Answer:
PERIMENOPAUSE IS LIKELY AT 44.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Are your cycles regular ?
What is your height and weight ?
It is just possible that you are experiencing peri menopausal symptoms.
The picture fits in with this diagnosis really well.
Of course, pregnancy again explains all of your symptoms, but a simple pregnancy test would rule that out.
To confirm peri menopause, please consult a gynecologist and have hormonal estimation - FSH, LH, Serum estradiol, TSH.
The symptoms are easily managed with supplemental hormones if the diagnosis is confirmed.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

Hello,
Yes, my cycles are regular and I am 5'4, I work out regularly (I have to or I fall apart-haha- I am 100% DAV with titanium in my hip and shoulder) I am approx. 148 with 28% body fat.
I have an apt scheduled for the 11th, but as you can imagine, I am a bit befuddled. My daughter is 19. I would love to have another one since I now 'have a clue' as to what parenting entails, but it is obsessing my brain as to what my body is going through right now, as I have been through a great deal the last 4 years.

Thank you,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
WAIT FOR THE WORKUP AND SEE

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
WIth regular cycles, perimenopause is less of a possibility, but that is the only thing that explains the severe symptoms.
ALso, it COULD be a more severe form of PMS, and that would respond to cyclical contraceptive hormonal pills.
ALso, as you have had a tubal ligation, you would anyways need IVF to conceive again.
SO even if you ARE perimenopausal, it does not matter much.
Wait it out until your appointment and have the tests as indicated to know what is actually going on.
WIsh you good health.
