What Causes Swollen Face And Neck After Taking ATG Rabbit For Kidney Disease?
Question: hello there ... my sister received a kidney via transplant 5 weeks ago... since this her immune system started to reject the kidney... so doctors put her on daily doses of ATG rabbit. after finishing her course a week ago she has now fallen extremely ill.. swollen face neck hands ankles etc fever achy joints can barely have anyone touch her the pain is that horrific. this has been on going for two days. doctors have done bloods scans MRI scan everything is looking clear. she has all signs of serum sickness but she doesn't have a rash? doctors are baffled as to what can be wrong with her and are all having a morning meeting to discuss whats next. i just wondered if anyone had heard of this
Brief Answer:
It could be Fungal Infection.

More than Serum Sickness your doctors should consider Infections especially CMV infections or Fungal Infections as these can occur easily in patients with Kidney transplant patients who are on Immunosuppressant medications.
Also her Kidney functions needs to be checked by getting blood urea and Serum Creatinine test.
It would be better if you doctors could involve an Infectious disease specialist in diagnosis.
Kindly let me know the reports of blood tests so that I can advise what needs to be done.
