Question: My 30 year old son just called, his lip has swollen. He has had an instance where his face swelled and was treated at the emergency room for allergic reaction, unknown source. Urgent care facilities are closed, should I take him to the emergency room?

Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Your son has suffered from allergic reaction which could be in response to anything like insect bite, allergy, dust, etc. Usually we prescribe antihistamine BUT in cases like your son, there is an exaggerated response so best treatment in that case is one i/v shot of steroid & antihistamine. they will reduce the allergic response quicker than oral medication. If he has been given these shots in ER room then you need to wait & observe. Hopefully recovery will start in few hrs and may take few days to recover completely.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
