What Causes Swollen Lump Behind Right Ear, Sore Throat And Cold Post Intercourse?

Question: Hi Doctor,
i'm a 19 year-old overseas student in Australia, I'm a Chinese. Recently i have some serious problem that might be related to hiv. I came to Australia in September 2015, before that i had taken an body examination which was required. The result turned out that i'm okay. But I went back to China after one semster here, in Feb.When i got back i went prostitution, cheap hookers, twice (only two sexual experiences in my life) on 6 Feb and 10 Feb. I DID wear condoms all the time and they were not broken because i had examined them after sexs. But 3 weeks ago i found that there was a swollen lump behind my right ear, which i had never noticed before. It's been three week, even it doesn't hurt at all but it did not turn smaller, but not enlarge either. Now i'm so scared that if i got hiv. I cannot sleep at all because of worrying. I think i have Aids Phobia. By the way i had a sore throat on 15 Feb but it got well on the next day, 16 Feb. I was walking in the heavy rain without a umbrella on 14 Feb night for which i might get a cold. Now i'm so scared and i haven't taken and hiv test.
Please help me! SOS!Thank you so much!

Brief Answer:
Get HIV tests done to relieve your anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic. I have gone through the details.

The chances of HIV transmission by single unprotected intercourse with a HIV positive person is 1/200 to 1/1000.It is low.The may be negative too.
The symptoms of Sore throat may be due any simple respiratory infection and does not suggest HIV. The swelling behind ears may be lymph nodes ,due to any simple infection in the ears or scalp.Treating that infection can reduce the swelling. You can consult your doctor for examination of swelling. This does not suggest HIV.

But it is better to get HIV tests done. You can go for HIV 1&2 RNA PCR or HIV Duo/combo test at this stage to relieve your anxiety.

You can get back for any clarification.
Thank you

i did wear a condom. Does that work? I got Chronic rhinitis and when i got back i got sore eyes woul that be the causes for swollen lymph nodes? When i was a kid i got injuries on my scalp twice, if the swollen lymph nodes was caused by that time would it possible that it would remain enlarged?d

Brief Answer:
Condom does protect from HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.

Condom definitely protects from HIV if used in a right manner. But it would be better to get the tests done to relieve your anxiety totally.
The lymph nodes may be due to old infection or current infection. Some times they may persist.
Single enlarged lymph node is not a reason to worry.
You can get back for any clarification.

Thank you so much doc. I will take the test. The swollen lymph node behind my right ear does NOT hurt at all even pushed
and it is not obvious but i can reach and feel it by my hand, It is possible that i got a lymph cancer or something rather than hiv? And if i take the hiv test can i trusted in the oral fluid test or better to take the blood sample test

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
It may be due to past infection.
It is better if you can get the tests recommended earlier at this stage.
