What Causes Swollen Lymph Node In Groin Area Of A Child?
My 2.5 year old son was scratching his thigh this morning. It was while putting some cream on his thigh is when I noticed a small lump. It feels like a relatively hard lump (not very soft to touch). I recall from earlier (when he was around 6 months old and while getting his shots), I noticed a similar bump/could be the same) but I thought he got it from the shots so I dismissed it. This time that is not the case. He did not get any shots recently. I am really worried now. Could it be something I should be scared about. It seems like it has been there for a while since it was not the result of a flu shot as i had then expected. Could you please help?
Don't worry, seems to be benign condition
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for the query. It would have been better for me if you send a pic.
That will provide the details like proper site and appearance of the swelling.
Most common cause of painless, non inflammatory(absence of redness, tenderness) small lump in this age group is lymph node enlargement. Lymph node enlargement is usually a benign condition if the swelling is not multiple,it is not rapidly increasing in size and free of signs of inflammation.
Most of the swelling subsides on its own. Some other benign conditions like cyst, post injection granuloma can also occur.
So I would suggest you to send a pic if possible, observe the swelling (if there is change in size, color, appearance of pain) and to consult a pediatrician for proper examination so that you get relieved.
