What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes Below The Ear?
Please give additional information.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
To recapitulate: Female/29 - LN swollen below the ear - very painful - stiff neck - Cefadrox, Lyser-D, Mupi Oint - known PCOS ...
The swollen lymph nodes are usually due to an infection in the drainage area and the medicines you are taking are fine for this.
If you have been taking Cefadrox for more than 3 days without any relief I would advise you the following:
- Consult a General or an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, investigations and may be change over to another antibiotic.
- Needs to have clinical examination to find the site of origin of infection such as teeth, tonsils, oral cavity, ear canal.
- Tests of blood for CBC to know the WBC count - whether raised or within normal limits and other tests like sugar kidney functions and as may be advise by your Doctor after evaluation.
- High resolution Ultrasonography with FNAC- fine needle aspiration cytology if required to know the exact diagnosis so that the treatment can be guided accordingly.
Please give some details as it will help me in assisting you better.
- Since when have you started the swelling/pain?
- Since when are you taking the medicines you mentioned above?
- Is there any focus of infection in the drainage area as I have mentioned above.
- Any associated other symptoms like fever, chills, local redness, tenderness?
Take the medicines properly and you may be fine soon.
Take bed-rest as it helps in early recovery.
I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
As explained below.
Detailed Answer:
Thank for the proper feedback and the clear picture.
This is the focus of infection and since it has caused the lymph node enlargement and was not amenable to Eltocin, Cefadrox should have helped.
I would have preferred to send the pus form the infected acne for gram staining, culture and sensitivity (C/S) as the report will help in future if needed.
Since Cefadrox has been started on 26 th evening, it is about 4 days and if there is still the same or increasing problem, another antibiotic may be added/changed as per the prescription of your Doctor.
Rest of the things as we discussed above.
Once the pus has been sent for gram staining and C/S you can clean the area with Solution Povidone iodine as it keeps the area sterile and avoids further infection from the skin as may be the cause at most of the times.
I hope this answer helps you.
