What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In Neck Post Thyroidectomy?
Question: Friday I had XXXXXXX for follicular thyroid cancer. had a thyroidectomy several weeks before that. AFTER The XXXXXXX my neck and lymph nodes are swollen. Does this mean there is remains of cancer in the lymph nodes? WHy are my lymph nodes and neck swollen?
Brief Answer:
this can be side effect of XXXXXXX therapy
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for following up.
Swelling of neck and lymph glands after XXXXXXX suggest inflammation of neck glands due to uptake of radioidoine in those glands. This should subside in few days. Symptomatic treatment like analgesics are usually enough.
This has got nothing to do with cancer in the nodes. This can occur even without any cancer cells in the glands. This is a type of hypersensitivity reaction (loosely, allergy).
Hope this helps.
