What Causes Swollen Painful Knee After An Injury?
I tripped over on a concrete pavement some time back and landed heavily on my knee. It was great after a few days when the pain subsided but my knee then began to swell. I have no pain at all now. But I do have a soft spongy swelling sticking out which is about two inches in diameter and about half an inch thick which is neither shrinking or getting any bigger. Someone suggested I hit it very hard with a flat board. Is that an old wives' tale? Or does it really work.? Thanks. XXXXXXX
It needs to be investigated
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
I have read your case. It looks to me that you hit the ground, and developed knee effusion. As You are saying there is no pain, so there is no fracture or ligament damage for sure.
I would forbid you to hit any thing on your knee as it can cause more damage to knee. This is not a good idea.
I would suggest you to get ultrasound examination of the knee joint. This will confirm us how much fluid or blood is collected in side the joint.
If volume of fluid is more then 150 cc then it needs to be aspirated by needle.
If you want, you can send me ultrasound report, I will be able to guide you about further management. Thanks.
