What Causes Tenderness In The Right Temple Area?
Question: For approximately two months I have had a sensation of pain on my right temple, which is triggered if the skin in that area is touched. The pain then spreads to the surrounding area for a maximum of some 2 to 3 inches, and then slowly fades away again. I thought nothing of it at first, but after having to deal with it for a few months, I am becoming a little concerned. There is no visible damage or trauma in the skin area in question. Could the problem be neurological? I would appreciate your professional opinion.

Hopefully, there have been changes in your visual acuities or ability to see things in the past few weeks because if that's the case then, you really need to get in to see a neurologist or ophthalmologist immediately. If you do not have any changes in your vision then, you should still be seen quickly because the condition you are describing MAY BE something called a VASCULITIS or inflammation of blood vessels which is not so uncommon in patients of your age.
I agree with your concern and therefore, a visit with a neurologist in order to rule out something called GIANT CELL ARTERITIS OR TEMPORAL ARTERITIS which describes the location of the swollen or inflamed arteries that are extremely painful. You will need some blood work and potentially to go on a tapering dose of steroids such as prednisone in order to treat the condition if in fact, that's what you are describing.
