What Causes Tenderness Of Xiphoid Process?
Question: My xiphoid process is tender to the touch. I also have random spasms in the center of my chest. I have no heartburn but assuming the pain is from my esophogas. The pain (spasms) does not coincide with meals or activities - it's random and lasts for a couple of seconds. It only happens a couple of times a day. I'm a 46 year old female with no known health problems. (5'2" 120lbs)
Brief Answer:
Tietze's syndrome or inflamed xiphoid
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
if you are sure about the tenderness on the Xiphoid process, then the symptoms you have cant be due to gastritis.
it could be either Tietze's syndrome involving cartilages or due to inflammation of the xiphoid process.
Do try taking Tab Motrin 400mg twice daily for three days after food. if the pain comes down then the above possibilities can be considered.
Also, do take a dose of an Antacid during the days you are on tab Motrin.
Hope, this helps.
Wish you good health.
