What Causes The Change In Measure In An HIV Duo Test?
Question: Dear doc.
This is a follow-up question. I had a 4th gen hiv duo test as advised by you to complete protocol.
As stated earlier i had 2 safe exposures on 20th and 25th XXXXXXX with escorts in dubai.
I got herpes from one of the exposure. So i was worried that i might have been exposed to hiv also.
So i did the following test.
14 days. HIV PCR RNA QUALITATIVE TEST
8 weeks HIV DUO 4th gen TEST.
18 weeks HIV DUO 4th gen TEST.
ALL CAME BACK NEGATIVE. but in one duo test the measure was 0.33 and the lastest test it was 0.48. Ofcourse it means negative as < then 1.0 is negative. but can u explain what effects the change in these numbers. And do i need any more testing.
Also to clarify after these exposures i havebt had any new exposure except for sex with my wife who is 100% hiv negative. I was worried i would pass it her hence all the testing.
Please reply to my queries so ican put this behind me and start a new life with my wife.

Your all tests point to your negative status.No worries..
The numbers you talked about are called OD values , which is specific for a test at a particular lab and there is cut value above which the test is declared positive .
Naturally the results would vary for different tests , but stll they being < 1.0 OD value , which proves your negativity.
You don't require any further tests as your last test has crossed the XXXXXXX 'window period(90 days)
You can safely look to future with all happiness and start a new life with your spouse.
But remember: Always 'condom ' your sex if it is outside your faithful monogamous (read 'wife 'in our contest) relationship.
So keep safe and remain healthy.
