What Causes Thickening Of The Uterine Walls?

Your endometrial biopsy result should give you the answer
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help give you the information you are looking for. Thank you for supplying the medical information to assist me in answering your question.
The tissue inside your uterus that builds up every month and is shed with your period is called the endometrium. If a woman does not get her period regularly, or has heavy, irregular bleeding doctors may do the tests you mentioned- the ultrasound, which measures the thickness of the endometrium... and take a sample of the tissue itself called an endometrial biopsy, that can be analyzed in the lab to tell the doctor what is wrong.
Thick endometrium can be caused by built up tissue from missing periods, or growths in the lining of the uterus (for example polyps or fibroids-which are benign). Unfortunately cancer can grow in the endometrium as well so getting the biopsy you did is especially important.
When your doctor reviews your biopsy results with you, he/she should be able to explain why your endometrium appeared thick on the ultrasound.
I hope my answer and the information I provided is helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be any further help.
Best wishes, Dr. Brown
