What Causes Throat Congestion After A Throat Infection?
Question: I've just had a virus - sore throat, then cold then cough, which has passed, but the glands in my throat just under my jawline are still painful & stiff, and there seems to be a lot of mucus or catarrh at the back of my throat; it's not infected, but I keep having to clear it, and sound as if I have a permanent frog in my throat, or am about to make a speech. The bug went well over a week ago, but this post viral bit seems to be lasting a long time - and it's left me incredibly tired.
Brief Answer:
sinus infection

Hello madam and welcome to healthcaremagic,
If you are having a lot of mucus in your throat and you have to frequently clear your throat then it is very possuble that your sinuses are still infected.
Please consult a doctor for confirmation.
You will do well with an antibiotic preferably of the penicillin group. Steam inhalation 3 times daily helps to ventilate the sinuses and controls infection. Do warm salt water gargling 4 times daily and avoid airconditioning and fan.
The post viral syndrome of weakness , tiredness and lethargy can last for 10 days.
Drink lots of water and get plenty of rest and eat nutricious foo
