What Causes Throat Seizing While On Estrace, Prozac And Ativan?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: I take Estrace (0.5mg) at night (due to total hysterectomy) and have been taking Prozac 10 mg now for 2 weeks. First week, 5 mg, Second week, 10 mg. I take the prozac in the morning and it makes me a little nervous so take 1 mg Ativan however this gets my throat seized. I have continually had this problem when trying other antidepressants so not sure what I can take instead of Ativan? I have tried propranonal (5mg) however next day am depressed from this. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Brief Answer:
Prozac is known to cause anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.

Prozac is known to cause anxiety and propranolol can be depressogenic. The same is happening with you. Ativan is a good drug for anxiety but if it is not suiting you then the other options are :
1) Clonazepam 0.5mg
2) Xanax 0.5mg
3) Etizolam (0.5mg)
4) Tofisopam 50mg.
All these can be taken with fluoxetine to reduce its drug induced anxiety. You may discuss these options with your doctor and get one of them prescribed.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

I am wondering if the anxiety from Prozac does reduce over time? How long would you give it for anxiety to be reduced?

Brief Answer:
Yes it does reduce

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Anxiety caused by prozac reduces with time. You may try it for 4 weeks more and see if the anxiety reduces. If so you may continue.
Kind regards
