Thyroid dysfunction is known to cause all the symptoms you have listed. Please get it tested if not already done. I would also recommend you to get your blood sugar, Vit b12 and serum cortisol tested. Approach a GP for the tests.
The above symptoms can also occur if you have been put on a new drug recently as a side effect.

Here is the answer to your questions
1. hypothyroidism is under functioning of your organ where the thyroid hormones are being produces in quantities that are below the requirement of our body. Patients here tend to have cold intolerance, obesity, low hear rate and menorrhagia ( increased periods)
2. Hyperthyroidism is over functioning of the thyroid gland. Patients typicall have heat intolrace, palpitations, increased heart rate, loss of weight, loss of hair, diarrhea, etc.
All symptoms need not be there, some patients just present with lethargy and fatigue
