Detailed Answer:
Provisional Impression-Extreme Tightness in upper Abbs?Sprained Upper Recti Abdomini
Hi,thanks for your query to My virtual Clinic at HCM.
I studied your query in all the details put forth from you.
Yes working in the Gym at 70 years age,has caused sprain injury of the Upper Rectus Abdominis.
In your case it seems that the sprain injury is moderate,as there is only extreme tightness without any excruciating or sever pain.
Hence you should not worry for the upper Abbs muscle tear.

Point of worry in your age, could be accompanying old age drugs for blood thinning / Statins for cholesterol reduction /Aspirin,etc,which could increase the risks of Blood clot from deep vein thrombosis of the deep veins underneath the upper Rectus Abdominis muscle.

Hence for the above reasons and risks otherwise for your age of 70,I would suggest following care from your family doctor / and or Surgeon or Sports doctor if need be with advise of your family doctor-
-Consult ER Surgeon if complaints increase and or complaints don't reduce in next 48-72 hours.
-Cold Compresses/ or Infrared Radition heat from your family doctor or at home.
-Voltaren Gel locally, especially at the pain trigger points on the lateral border of the rectus abdominis.
-Avoid any oral medication as far as possible for next 3 days time,
-Be on bland veg liquid and low volume diet x for 3 days time
-Get the USG /CT Scan of the upper abdominis muscle,if the extreme tightness continues for more than 2-3 days time, under guidance from your ER Surgeon, to rule out any muscle or vein injury accompanied with this issue.
-This is to rule out any Vein Injury and accompanied clot or thrombosis of Deep Abdominal Vein underneath Upper Rectus Abdominis ,which may develop slowly in your case,as the injury suggests.

I await any information on the past or present illness of High Blood pressure,High lipids/cholesterol etc.
I don't expect these illnesses as you are fit and working in Gym at 70 years age.

If you are satisfied with this answer, don't forget to write your excellent comments,to help needy visitors like you.

Wishing you fast recovery and healthy long life.
