What Causes Tingling And Electric Shock Like Sensation In The Shins?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: I am a very active 58 year old male. I take an average of 15000 steps per day. In the last 3 weeks I have notice some relatively severe knee pain located just under my kneecap. I have also noticed a tingling and electrical type feeling in my shin. The tingling happens sporadically. I have stretched daily for the last 4 years and this seems to have no affect on the symptoms. I am wondering what your best thoughts are as to what this could be. I look forward to your answer.

Brief Answer:
Can be osteoarthrts.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A severe knee pain just below the knee cap can be related to osteoarthritic changes in the knee or due to bursitis. The mild tingling sensation can be due to a minor nerve irritation due to knee inflammation.
The treatment options include pain killers, hot fomentation, lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin , dycerin, etc and some life style modifications and physiotherapy.
Right now you can start taking Tablet Tylenol ( Acetaminophen) Double Strength after breakfast and after dinner. It is suggested to add calcium supplements 500mg each twice daily. This will take care of your mild symptoms in 3-5 days.
You can start with aerobic fitness exercises, quadriceps strengthening, patellar tapping, lateral heel wedges, etc- under the guidance of your physiotherapist.
I hope this answers your query.
