Question: I have slight tingling in my right foot and half way up my calf. If I twist my foot while sitting very mild pain. Doesn't hurt too much when I walk on it. Do not have a sprained ankle. Have been feeling a bit off colour the last few days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Kindly do answer my queries for a better understanding of your problem.

Are you Diabetic?

Do you have back pain that radiates to the lower limbs?

It is possible you may be having inflammation of the nerves that supply the foot called Peripheral neuritis. This is described as tingling and numbness of the feet. Other cause could be entrapment or damage to the nerve in the calf causing similar complaints.

Sometimes entrapment of nerves in the spine at the lower back can cause similar symptoms but also associated with pain radiating from the lower back to the thigh, calf and foot.

You can take Tablet Pregabalin 75mg at night for 15 days after consultation with your local doctor. This shall reduce the tingling and numbness sensation. Avoid wearing tight footwear. Keep your limbs elevated over a pillow. Keep your legs and feet submerged in warm water with added one tablespoon common salt. Move your ankles up and down in the warm water. This shall reduce any localised oedema and provide relief. Apply hot packs to the painful region on your calf. If you notice increased swelling on the affected side calf as compared to the unaffected side, kindly get a venous Doppler study done to rule out a clot.

Eat plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables. Keep well hydrated. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanks and regards

No to both questions. Am not diabetic and no lower back pain that radiates down leg.

Thanks for the reply.

It could be nerve entrapment or stretching near the upper outer region of the calf.
