default
Posted on Mon, 2 May 2016
Question: I have been working out 6 days a week, I am 65 years old and today my arm started tingling and it hurt right above my elbow. I was spinning at cycle studio and when I stopped the pain went away, when i started again the pain came back. Could this be a sign of my heart? I have had dropper of my veins 5 years ago at the heart hospital and they were clear?

Brief Answer:
if no heart related symptoms present eg chest pain, shortness, not likely

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Though heart related conditions can cause pain to be referred to the arm, in most cases, other heart symptoms would be expected along with any arm symptoms

This means chest pain, shortness of breath , palpitations- all of these would indicate that the heart is some distress

If you are only experiencing tingling in the arm, then this is not likely related to the heart.
It is possible that it is related to nerves affected by some movement that you are doing.

When you spin, the affected nerves cause numbness which is relieved at rest.
Abnormal nerve function is called neuropathy

It can be due trauma (eg arthritis, fracture etc) , diabetes, vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
These are some of the causes of neuropathy but in your case, with the effect with a particular movement, trauma to a nerve is most likely

Your doctor may want to consider imaging of the neck and shoulders to look at the nerves in the area

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
