What Causes Tingling Sensation In Limbs?
Over time, I also developed "pinprick" or tingling sensations on various parts of my body, usually on legs, but periodically on my arms, hands and face as well. These occur most frequently when sitting or driving, but sporadically also when walking or standing.
My doctor believes that is related to some sort of nerve issue in lower back. Has scheduled me for an appt with neurologist, after blood test appear showed no abnormalities.
Raising legs seem to help with both symptoms.
Went to second MD who concurred that he does not think anything serious as there is no pain and affected areas are not hot to the touch (no vein problems) and because pinpricks only last split second.
Pending my appt with neurologist, i would greatly appreciate any imput from a doctor who may have seen this type of condition before. My search of MEDHELP shows many people suffering from similar heat flashes, but have not found any with corresponding Pinprick or tingling sensations.
thank you, i would be grateful for your help.
Compression of nerve roots coming out from spinal cord...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
The pinprick/tingling sensations in your limbs are indicative for compression of nerves root coming out from the vertebral spine.
Neurological examination and MRI of spinal cord will help determine current changes and at what extent the nerves root are affected.
2. You are reporting that your blood tests resulted fine. I need to know if diabetes was also ruled out?
3. Next, I want to know if your doctor asked to run arthritis testing to rule it out?
4. You are also saying that vein problems are ruled out? Have you had any Doppler ultrasound so far? Can you please provide the report?
As you may see, if I was your caring doctor would rule out :
- the metabolic diseases first including: diabetes, thyroid, arthritis, etc.
- then, discuss with neurologist to rule out neurological issues
Meanwhile, I advise to:
- try to lose weight if you are overweight or obese
- do light exercises to strengthen the muscles of spine
Hope it was of help!
Dr.Albana
Today i met with a neurologist who provided shocks to various parts of my leg and my arm and hand, as well as conducting strength tests of my limbs, feet and hands, and she advised that all tests were normal.
she will look at possible vitamin/mineral deficiency and follow up with my MD.
I would obviously prefer that the tests you have recommended be conducted, to rule out other more serious causes, rather than relying upon vitamins and minerals.
i will keep in touch.
thank you again.
Looking forward to have your updates
