What Causes Tingling Sensation In Lower Leg And Unusual Bruise Near Coccyx?

Question: I was diagnosed with a herniated disk a few yrs ago, but the pain went away. I've been experiencing tingling in my lower left leg and foot for the last two weeks. I woke up this morning with a bruise at the base of my spine at the top of my rear end. Also, the skin on my lower leg stays down when I push into it, almost like an indention.Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Bruise? Is it some injury mark, you mean to say?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

In view of your known history of disk herniation, tingling in left lower leg and foot is possible due to the disk causing root compression-radiculopathy.You must be having lumbosacral disk herniation.MRI of Lumbo-sacral region will help in the diagnosis.

Regarding bruise,What do you exactly want to say with bruise over here?Is it some injury mark or some localized area of changed skin color?
Indentation on pushing on legs appear to be 'pitting edema'?Is it present in one leg or both the legs?

Please tell the details as I asked,so that I can answer this well further.

Hello Dr. Thank u for ur response.

I've had an MRI two yrs ago, and definitely had a herniated disk, but the pain went away, so I didn't do anything. I started working long hours here I'm on my feet, I'm not in pain, but the tingling concerned me.

I suppose I may have bumped into something, causing the bruise.

Please tell me more about the "pitting edema". My case isn't serious, but I didn't know if it had something to do with the tingling.

Yes it's in both legs.

Brief Answer:
Low serum protein/Heart,Kidney or Liver related disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

I suggest you to visit a general physician to get your bruise examined and treated accordingly.

Pitting edema is unrelated to tingling.

Common causes of pitting edema are-
1)Low serum proteins
2)Heart failure
3)Anemia
4)Kidney disease
5)Liver disease

I suggest you to get the following investigation done-
1)Serum proteins
2)Complete blood count
3)Urine routine microscopy
4)Kidney function tests
5)Liver function tests
6)Ultrasound abdomen
Alternatively, you can get yourself physically examined by a physician, who can decide the investigations depending upon the findings of your physical examination.

If you have some further question,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
