What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Left Thigh While On Acetaminophen?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: For the past couple of days, on and off, I get aq dull ache, feels like in the muscle of my left buttocks, in my left crotch area, also tingling and prickly pain to touch on the skin of my left thigh. A couple of 600 mg arthritis pills will take the ache away for about 4 hours, then it's back. The ache kept me up pretty much all last night, heating pad, and tropical pain creams don't alleviate ache, and hot or cold cream on my skin produces initial slight burning sensation, also skin sensation feels dulled. I have no fever, no other symptoms, felt good today till about 4 pm, took a long walk, etc. Walking, moving doesn't bother me, sitting and laying down produces the aches. I have some arthritis, but pain has never been an issue. The ache definitely feels in the muscle, is very localized, more throbbing, and does go away with acetaminophen within 15 minutes. I am a healthy, active 71-year-old woman and have never experienced this symptoms before. Moving around brings some relief. If I had to guess, I'd say neuralgia. Don't even know what sort of doctor I would call.

Brief Answer:
neuroradiculopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

The pain,as you have rightly guessed,is due to an inflammed nerve in the buttock region-neuropathy / neuralgia.

This can be either a sudden onset inflammation of the nerve or due to impingement of the nerve in the lumbar spine due to a slipped disc. Both these conditions cause similar type of pain.

I would suggest you to take analgesic anti-inflammatory tablets like ibuprofen/paracetamol along with methycobalamin/pregabalin tablets.
This will provide much relief to you.

If this doesn't help, you should consult an orthopedist or a neurosurgeon and get an MRI of the lumbar spine done to rule out a slipped disc.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
