Posted on Mon, 16 Jan 2017
Question: I have tingling in my hands and sometimes feet. My hands and feet are sometimes sensitive to the touch and ache. I don't feel I have good circulation. I was thinking this could be diabetic neuropathy, but I've never been diagnosed with diabetes. I know there are a few possibilities. Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

Yes these are the symptoms of neuropathy.
There are many causes of peripheral neuropathy.

In such a situation there is a need for detailed physical examination including neurological and spine examination.

Depending upon clinical examination following evaluation may be suggested-
- Blood sugar levels Fasting and post-prandial, HbA1c if not already done.
- Complete blood count.
- Renal function test including serum urea, creatinine, electrolytes.
- Liver Function test including Bilirubin, Liver enzymes, Total Proteins and albumin.
- Calcium profile.
- Thyroid Function Test.
- Vitamin B12 level.
- Vitamin D3 level.

Also there may be need for Nerve conduction study.

Better to consult neurophysician.

Hope this helps you.

Dr. Abhay Mali.

Dr,

I went to the ER today for this and my bloodwork came back very good. What does this mean? What could be causing this? So far, the symptoms have subsided a little bit. Should I see my primary? Thanks.
