What Causes Tingling Sensations At The Back Of The Head?

Question: Hi Doctor,

I am XXXX, contacted you 3 months ago. Hope you remember me, I was diagnosed with L2-L3 disc extrusion and I wanted to give an update about my health status.

Well, I have contacted Neuro surgeon (Dr. XXXXXXX Kumar) and Spine surgeon (Dr XXXXXXX Kalavakuntla) in XXXXXXX both of them have reviewed my MRI reports and said that - for my case 90% surgery is not required and will be recovered.

I am impressed with XXXXXXX XXXXXXX and I am under his supervision at the moment. I have tingling sounds on my back, sometimes on the neck/foot/calf, there is always pain on my back/knees, foot, buttocks, calf etc., continuously for 15 hours and thang god - I don't have pains at least whenever I sleep (night & day - sleep is very good). All these symptoms for me - it seems due to pinched nerve or sciatica.

Since 4 months I am very limited in my lifestyle (sedentary), not driving car/bike, not lifting heavy weights, not sitting on flat surface, avoiding front bending etc.,

All I am doing static/back stretching exercises as explained in below website
http://www.bodiempowerment.com/herniated-disc-part-2-the-best-exercises-for-your-herniated-disc/

My question is how long should I wait to recovery my active/busy life back ? very much depressed because it impacting on my job/performance. Few of my colleagues/friends are suggesting to go with surgery (which I am not really interested and avoid it). Is it wise to go with surgery for faster recovery or long should I wait to get my life back ?

About personal life - I am not even engaged in sexual intercourses since so many months. You can understand how I am feeling with this pain, is it wise to have sex with the back pain ?

Another question : I was going through few lumbar traction device and I found 2 of them shown below:

http://www.sciaticapainreliefathome.com/saunders-lumbar-traction/

Will it suite for my case and will it give relief to my pinched nerve at L2-L3, please advise

Thank you for your support and time for going through my question.

Regards,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Gradually things will improve.Lumbar traction can be used.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing me the update.

Apparently, you have got some improvement in your symptoms. I hope the symptoms to improve further in another few weeks.

Although, I must mention it here that you need not to make your life physically too busy or too hectic. Its better to take precautions forever, because your already vulnerable spine may deteriorate with excessive physical stress. Physical exercises though will definitely make the things better. But, you need to realize that you have to make some adaptations in life.In fact, many of us have to make adaptions some time like diabetic patients have their dietary restrictions and same for other common diseases.

Lumbar traction mentioned in the link you gave is ok and can be used.It will be helpful.

Hope that helps. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Many thanks Doctor, glad to your suggestions/recommendations.

For your information - i am really not making my life too busy since 3 months. Infact, i am just working from home and doing regular walking every day near my apartment. Really I have changed my life a lot, waking up early in the morning, being cautions every moment and not giving physically/mentally stress to my body.

I have one last question - about sexual life, should i stop sexual intercouse for next one year ?

Thank you so far, XXXXXXX

Hi Doctor,

I have question another question about L2-L3 disc extrusion, based on your experience - have you ever or how many patients have you seen with L2-L3 and how far was the success rate for the conservative (without surgery) for this level of vertebrae

A Large number of patients remain fine without surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Here are answers to your queries-
1) No. Its not mandatory to abandon sexual relations. Its just that care about posture during the same should be taken.
2)A large proportion of patients with L2-L3 disc extrusion lives a good life on conservative management. Surgery is actually required in a very small percentage of patients.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
