What Causes Tiredness During Day Time While On Medication For Hypothyroidism?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Oct 2015
Question: Why do I get so tired? I am 88 years old but seem to be in good health otherwise. I take medication for blood pressure, hypothyroidism (much of it surgically removed a while back) a 50,000 unit Vitamin D once a month plus lots of daily calcium and I also have partial bladder incontinence. I have to have catch-up naps throughout the day--sometimes I fall asleep; sometimes I don't. I go to a gym twice a week for exercise (recommended by my orthopedic sugeon because of a knee problem--no replacement planned!) --most exercises use machines--it's for arm and leg strengthening, and I love it! I live alone, wear a life-line alert bracelet, drive my car and am not a good housekeeper anymore. Must use a cane outdoors. Am a monthly museum volunteer, somewhat active at church yet and spend a lot of time at my computer. Thanks in advance! XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Change in lifestyle needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX and welxcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your concern.
Well you're on medication for Hypothyroidism, urine incontinence, Hypertension, and a keratosis problem.
You're on the right treatment and a very good gym routine.
However, you should try to avoid taking day time naps, as it causes insomnia.
A restful night sleep is advised, otherwise you can easily get tired in the day time.
As you are taking Myrbetriq, you should also check your blood pressure regularly.
You need to drink about 8 glasses fluids daily. Increase according to sweating.
Avoid drinking more than a glass of water after supper, or else, you'll need to wake up at night, to pass urine.
If your incontinence is bothersome, check your urine culture, blood sugaran creatinine.
Wish you well.
