Question: Hello doctor, Need a quick suggestion please. My dad is 60 years old. He underwent a bypass surgery last year on Oct 9th 2014. He is recovering slowly now. He feels very tired and weak. He travelled a different city yesterday. and since yesterday evening he is vomiting almost any food he eats. and today, he developed continuos hiccups since morning. He is travelling back to my city tonight, so that he can visit the heart surgeons tomorrow. can you please advise on his condition and safer way to treat his hiccups so that he can travel back home peacefully. thank you

Brief Answer:
Chlorpromazine and metoclopramide

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based upon your description, your dad seems to be suffering from motion sickness associated nausea along with the hiccups. Both can contribute towards vomiting. Chlorpromazine can be given for intractable hiccups as a first choice drug. He will have a hiccup and nausea free journey if metoclopramide is also given. Please consult a doctor before deciding on any medication. However , Chlorpromazine and metoclopramide ( or other anti emetics ) should be available over the counter.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
