What Causes Tooth Sensitivity At The Site Of Zirconia Crown?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: I recently had a cubic zirconia crown and have had severe hot/cold sensitivity ever since. My dentist insisted that it must be that I need to have a root canal. I have never had issues with my previous crown on the same tooth, the replacement temporary, or the temporary that I now have since I insisted that the cubic zirconia crown was "not working" properly. Now, I am concerned that when the new permanent crown comes in, I will be back to having sensitivity issues. Should I be concerned about them using another cubic zirconia crown or should I seek out changing to another material due to possible sensitivity to the materials?

Brief Answer:
dentinal hypersensitivity, Root canal treatment

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As fa as the sensitivity in a tooth where you have zerconia crown is concerned, i have the following possibility and remedy.
The sensitivity is because of the reduction in tooth structure to facilitate the placement of the crown results in dentinal hypersensitivity to hot and cold food. Since we need to reduce the tooth structure in case of zirconia crown unlike metal crowns. Since they ave already prepared the tooth structure for zirconia crown you cannot go for other materials. So you need to get the tooth treated with root canal treatment and get the cap replaced. If you are not getting it treated with root canal treatment the tooth might get infected resulting in pain and swelling. So i advise you to get it root canal treated prophylactically.
I hope i have answered your query. If any queries are there reply me back, take care.
