Question: i have skaky hands temors what can i take for it im 65 my mother has it really bad one hand is sometimes more shaky the left please what can i take to improve this my kids at school always say ms XXXXXXX why are your hands shaky please help

It is seen more often in older adults and usually runs in families. Propranolol, a non-selective Beta blocker is usually considered in such cases. I have seen great results in many patients with propranolol, including those with thyroid disease. Despite being an older medication, it is still first-line for such indication. The main interactions would be related to other medications that slow down the heart, such as verapamil, diltiazem, metoprolol, etc. Side effects may include slower heart rate, fatigue, some changes in mood, but these are not frequent.
There is short acting propranolol that you take up to 4 times per day (I do not recommend it, too difficult to keep up with all doses) and a long-acting formulation labeled propranolol LA, that is taken once a day.
