What Causes Unconsciousness And Headache After Head Injury?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: About 12 hours ago, while reaching high up, trying to remove a pan from a hook, that was just out of reach, I passed out and fell backwards and hit my head on the floor or a stool and broke the skin on the top up my head. I was out for under 30 seconds and very disoriented for the next 5 minutes or so. Treated scalp wound and took 2 aspirin. Went to bed around 3 am, normal time for me, woke early and had meal and two hours later, I still have a headache. Just took 2 more Aspirin, headache getting worse. No insurance, so hesitating on a Doctor visit. I do chat support and typing this was more trouble then normal. Do I need to seek medical assistance or wait it out for a while and just rest?

Brief Answer:
You should go to a doctor or ER; get a CT Scan brain done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com
This is Dr. Swarnava dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
First of all, you had a head injury which is potentially dangerous. Next, you had been unconscious for some time and after regaining consciousness also, you were disoriented for some time. You are having headache since then which is gradually increasing and not relieved by medicine. All these are symptoms to visit a doctor or ER and get an emergency Ct scan brain done.
The headache might be due to the trauma i.e. the impact to the head due to fall, and it might not be very serious but one has to rule out all the potentially dangerous signs and accordingly, the causes of such.
It seems like you have had a vasovagal attack leading to fall and trauma. You can apply ice locally, apply antibacterial ointment over the wound and do the investigations as suggested.

Hope i have answered your question.
If you have any further questions i will be happy to help.
Regards
