What Causes Unexplained Bruise On Leg After Doing Yoga?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Hello! I would appreciate some input. I could have had this rash prior but not realized it. However, I went to hot yoga the friday before last and then jogged slowly on the tread mill the next morning. Afterwards, I took a shower and had painful burning in spots on the back of my right thigh. This has become just a red area that doesn't seem to go away. It is not raised up or itchy. I have been to 1 doctor and 1 dermatologist. I was told it was probably from friction and to put cream on it. Dermatologist asked me about getting spots in the sun but I said no. I am now worried about sometjing serious such as leukemia because it is not going away. I did jog 3 days interspersed since I saw the rash. The reason why I am worried about leukemia is that I now have small bruises on my legs...5 in total and mostly on my left leg and thigh area. A couple on my right leg and by my knee. Don't know where they came from which scares me a lot. Maybe from jogging? Or my son? Not too sure but if worries me. Additionally, I was sick yesterday with a fever that was going around my family this week but am now feeling better. However for a few days before and still afterwards I am very achey especially in my hands and arms. Thank you for your help! I am really worried!

Brief Answer:
upload a photograph of the rashes

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear
I had gone through your question I really appreciate your concern
bruise of one side of leg followed by increase in number and spreading to other leg may be due to
Lyme disease
allergic reaction
Contact dermatitis
Insect bite

Since you also have a history of fever so there are chances of lyme disease which can develop due to tick bite
if you can upload me a photograph I will be able to guide you better

as far as leukemia is concerned it's diagnosis can be confirmed by blood investigation or bone marrow biopsy

in my opinion you should visit your GP for the examination and lab investigations like hemoglobin CBC (complete blood counts) and AEC (Absolute eosinophil count)

I hope you will find my response informative and helpful
awaiting for the photograph and your reply
best wishes

This is the rash. If i had it before last friday i didnt notice it. It is not itchy or raised. It burns when i put cream on it. Derm and doctor said it looks superficial, i just thought it should have been gone by now. Just to clarify, the fever i did have went through my whole family which included nausea, diarrhea etc....lasted 2 days. The bruises i do have are very small and are on my thigh, and one or 2 on my shin, knee area...not sure how they got there...could have been from my son or jogging but im not positive. Anyway, as i said i am also worried because i am having achiness in my hands, forearms especially left and sometimes feet. Im just worried all these symptoms connect and are something more serious. I hope it isnt something serious like leukemia or something else but would like your opinion. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
consider aforementioned lab tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello
thanks for your reply
If the rash was superficial and if it has gone now then no need to worry, it was due to allergy or contact dermatitis
I could not see any clinical image uploaded. If you are not able to upload it, kindly send it as an attachment in mail, and mail it to YYYY@YYYY with Subject Attention: Dr Birma Ram Hudda. It is important to assess the rash from the image.

The pain in forearm and feet might be due to muscle spasm or nutrional deficiency like low calcium and vitamin B 12

please visit your doctor for base line lab investigation as I mentioned in my reply and a nutritional assessment

I hope you will find my response relevant and helpful

Thanks for your help! It is not gone yet which is why i am so worried it is something serious. Do you think it is likely something serious or just needs time to heal? Should i be worried about achiness in limbs and bruises as well as i know those are serious indicators as well As i said the area of thr redness/rash burns at times but then other times i dont feel it and it became more noticeable after hot yoga and jogging....i just would think it should be gone by now. Are you saying to get that blood work done bc you think its something serious? I have sent an email attachment to you of images. I am pretty worried about all this...thank you again! ?

Brief Answer:
this could be a Lyme disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello
thank you so much for your reply and sending photographs

this could be a Lyme disease caused by a tick bite. Did you experience any tick/ insect bike in recent past?
as rash has got typical appearance with bite marks in center, it is an infective condition which is something serious and you may require a course of antibiotics under supervision of your doctor

Tests i have advised you earlier are to rule out or suspect a diagnosis of leukemia which can be suspected if WBC counts comes high or immature WBC cells like blast cells are there. It is highly probable that it is not a leukemia or any severe condition. I would also advise you to get a absolute eosinophil count as it would be increased in a allergic reaction.

Please visit your doctor for the examination and aforementioned lab tests for confirmation of a diagnosis

I hope this addresses your question

I havent experienced any tick bites that i have known of. I live in Pennsylvania and it has been very cold recently. I work out in my mother in laws basement on a treadmill and have seen spiders there but thats about it. I thought tick bites looked more like a bulls eye? Again, i certainly hope this isnt leukemia and am really worried about it. The rash looks lighter when i wake up each morning but is there throughout the day. I have tiny, size of a dime bruises mostly on my other leg but nothing major. I saw a dermatologist and a doctor who didnt say anything about a tick bite. The rash does burn though from time to time. Again, hoping its nothing horrible.

Brief Answer:
It's nothing horrible ; you need not to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello
thanks for your reply

if you are sure that there is no exposure to ticks or if Lyme disease is not prevalent in the area where you live than you need not to worry at all this could be a allergic reaction or contact dermatitis

that's nothing horrible

you can allay your anxiety by lab tests to rule out the leukaemia that by looking at your history i am sure may not be there

In my opinion you should take antihistaminic group of drugs like levocetirizine and a calamine lotion to be applied locally on the rashes after consultation with a dermatologist

I hope this answer will relieve your anxiety
